🚧 A Major Boost for Uganda’s Infrastructure
Uganda has received great news as the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) announced funding for a major road infrastructure project in Eastern Uganda.
This project aims to upgrade over 98 kilometers of road, improving trade routes, transportation safety, and local development.
At Smeaton Constructions Uganda, we believe such developments mark a huge step toward transforming Uganda’s construction industry and national connectivity.
🛣️ What the Abu Dhabi Project Will Cover
The project focuses on upgrading the Kumi–Ngora–Serere–Kagwara road, a vital trade corridor linking multiple eastern districts.
Key construction features include:
✅ A 7-meter-wide carriageway for better traffic flow
✅ 2-meter paved shoulders for pedestrians and cyclists
✅ Modern bridges, culverts, and drainage systems
✅ Improved road safety signage and markings
Once completed, the project will help farmers access markets faster, create local jobs, and open up new investment opportunities across Eastern Uganda.
🌍 Strengthening Uganda–Abu Dhabi Relations
The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has been supporting infrastructure projects across Africa and Asia for decades.
Uganda has previously benefited from similar partnerships in sectors such as:
- Renewable energy
- Water and sanitation
- Health and education
This road project is part of Uganda’s Vision 2040 plan — to build a strong, connected nation driven by reliable infrastructure.
💼 Economic and Social Impact
The Abu Dhabi-funded road project will deliver both economic and social benefits:
- 🏗️ 1,000+ jobs for Ugandan engineers, builders, and local workers
- 🚚 Faster goods transportation between districts and border points
- 🏫 Improved access to schools, markets, and health centers
- 🌱 Boosted agriculture and trade through better road connectivity
As a leader in Uganda’s construction sector, Smeaton Constructions welcomes this milestone as it complements our mission of building a better, more connected Uganda.
